If you’re going to do anything this year, you need to make saving money a priority. The truth is that when you save more money, good things start to happen in your life. You need to always make sure that you can focus on saving money, taking care of your family, and growing in the future. The future looks bright when you have savings. Compare that to a life where you don’t have savings to fall back on. Could you really take that sick day, knowing that you won’t get paid for it? When you have savings, you can. However, when you don’t have savings to fall back on, you’re going to have to just go to work ill. That’s a hard pill to swallow, but it is what it is.

You need to ease into saving money. The human mind is very predictable. Deprivation just doesn’t work. If you try to cut yourself of from just about anything and everything that’s going to make your life easier, you’re going to be in for a rough time. It’s better to really make sure that you have things taken care of on a deeper level than that. You need to ensure that you are saving for the future in a way that still lets you enjoy the present. So here are a few tips to making it all fit together.

First and foremost, why not make it automatic? If you already know your budget, then you already know how much you’re spending in order areas. Cut part of your going out budget down and just eat in. Take the savings from eating in versus going out and get your savings set up. Even though you might be starting out with a small trickle of money, there’s nothing that says that you can’t adjust as your life improves. New raise? Live on the same amount of money and directly put the raise into your savings account. Birthday money? Same thing. Christmas money? Same thing. Tax refund? Same thing. A lot of people feel that this makes for a boring life, but it’s all about your priorities.

Extra money brings power into your life. You have options to do just about anything else that really speaks to you. If you wanted to go ahead and move to a new city, savings will help you do that. You won’t have to depend on anyone, and you certainly won’t have to hunt for any loans. You could live your whole life on your terms without worrying about what anyone thinks of you. You don’t have to do anything that you don’t want to, but savings is one of those things that really does pay off in the long run. After all, who is really going to take care of you when you’re older? That’s something else to keep in mind.

Savings isn’t something that has to be painful forever. The more money you make in life and the more savings/investments that you have, the more comfortable you will live overall. What if you really wanted to go back to school, buy a car, or get into a great house? Savings is where it all begins, so never forget that.

Good luck!
